MULTI FUNCTION FAN CONTROL
When installing the electric fan in my truck back in 2003, I discovered is that there is no aftermarket controller that would control a two speed fan.
I worked out a
design based on what I believe to be the best adjustable controller available,
(one I was willing to bet my reputation on). Then added
an auto-reset circuit breaker
and a second relay for the high speed. This also required the addition of a separate temperature control for high speed operation.
I also decided I did not want the fan to run at all times when the A/C was on. I dealt with this by adding a temperature switch that is attached to the A/C condenser.
The end result, shown below, is a system that will control either a two speed fan or dual fans independently. With the additional temperature switches, the low speed or first fan will turn on at an adjustable temperature, (I have mine set at 180 with a 170 thermostat). The high speed or second fan turns on at a fixed 205. The low speed or second fan will also turn on when the A/C condenser temperature demands it. As a result, at speeds above 40-50 mph, the fans shut down completely. Finally, I added a provision for connection of a manual override for the high speed.
